There is a lot going around about human rights, and people are very adamant about it like they should be. We have a law in America about freedom of speech, but some people misuse that privilege. You might have heard it on the news. This bothers me, being a young person in a very liberal state. To hear these people on the news talking about life and rights and using these things against other people. It’s not right! But I’ll get to that later.
The first thing that I am miffed about: abortion laws and the people who make them (no offense intended). But really, they are a bunch of white, old guys, who have never had to think about what might happen if they were to get pregnant, because they can’t! They are trying to impose rules on a gender that a) is not their own b) they don’t know the struggles of and c) then turn around and say that women’s opinions are not valid, though women are the ones that they are trying to impose rules upon! I mean, come on! It’s not your body, so it’s not your choice! The people who should be writing these laws should be the ones that they effect, and that applies to all laws! But no, that’s not how it works, is it?
My next part of this rant is related to the freedom of speech thing. Have you heard some of the stuff that is said on television? Some of the stuff that people say is downright disrespectful, and are intended so! Freedom of speech does not mean that you can say whatever you want to. It means that you have a right to your opinion, but if that opinion is harmful, then that is not classified under the “freedom of speech” bit. That is just harmful, and if that is your intent, then you are giving in to fear that will govern your life and make you lose all friends and family. You are destroying your life, then blaming all around you to try to bring yourself up, but that only tears you down more.
I know that it is not easy to be vulnerable and move forward, and it is scarier than Hell, but it is worth it in the end. I am young, and still working on this, but the times when I am not held back by my fear, I can see things with so much more clarity, and the day is so much more fun.
Like, why the everloving Hell would we even deny someone rights? I mean, I see where these people are coming from, either ignorance or fear (again), but if one would just look at history with the eyes as undiluted by biases as possible, then one might see that our reasons for doing something are because of our need for power over another group. Which is absolutely horrible! What if we just let them live their lives as equals, neither above nor below, and try to listen to their needs and desires along with our own, then maybe imagine where our world would be.
